I got off the phone not long ago with Teen Missions founder and director Bob Bland. The reason for my call to him was to inquire whether or not a missionary supported under another organization could serve alongside Teen Missions staff. The answer was no, and for good reasons I thought. So I proceeded to ask about the possibility of serving with a specific Teen Missions group such as in Honduras. From what I had heard through the grapevine, is that those wanting to serve with Teen Missions did so with the understanding that they would be placed where there was the greatest need, not necessarily where they felt called to serve or to a people group they felt called to. But in my conversation with Bob, he clearly stated that if the Lord is calling someone to serve a particular area, people, or TMI staff then they would arrange for that to happen. Praise God! This is confirmation to what I felt in Honduras to help the Chicas and the ministry Teen Missions is doing there.
There are several benefits I see to us serving with TMI. The first is that our training would really be "on-the-job" so to speak. With the required 2 week training at the TMI headquarters in Florida, the rest of the training would be at the actual base in Honduras. There of course would be a transition to a new life in missions. And my thought is that we would not take on much until we felt somewhat settled (a few weeks?). So my prayer is that, if it is God's will, we would transition to work with Teen Missions within the next 6-8 months. Training in Florida takes place in March. Please pray with us as we seek the Lord's direction in our lives and continue to take steps of faith in obedience to His call.
What an amazing testimony! It is amazing to see how God goes before us and prepares the way just as he did for the Israelites in the desert. It may not always be a pillar of fire, but he certainly did go before you and prepared the heart of the TMI director. We are praying for your family during this discovery process!
