New opportunity

Well it's been quite a long time since we have posted anything, mainly because we've just been waiting on the Lord. Not that He is slow but we have been learning that He must go before us, then we follow! The experiences in Honduras with Teen Missions have opened our eyes to the need in that country. Many people I have talked to would say that Honduras is not in need, but I completely disagree. As the country develops, other problems seem to arise. This is typical with a third-world country that progresses into an emerging country, very similar to what is happening currently in India. They have to deal with the problems that come with materialism, capitalism (yes, PROBLEMS with capitalism) and others that were not present before.

Although our plans to go to Honduras under Teen Missions to work with the Chicas family seemed ideal, we are seeing a much more specific plan unfold before us. Shortly after we returned from Honduras in January, we attended Missions Connexion NW, a regional conference for those seeking ministry and missions opportunities and to hear some great speakers. There were around 100 or so agencies represented, including colleges (my own Corban College), Christian camps, and of course mission groups and agencies.

While there we met up with a co-worker of mine who is also a part-time representative for CAM International. I did not know he was part of this organization so we got to talking about it as we didn't know anything about it. Come to find out, CAM's area of ministry is specific to Central America and Mexico. They have been doing mission work there for over 100 years. We shared with him about our trip to Honduras and how we felt the Lord was telling us to wait, and he asked if we would be open to him looking into possibilities in Honduras through CAM. Of course we said it was fine, not thinking much of it. When we reconnected about 2 weeks later, he told me about an opportunity in Honduras of a specific people group that has been close to my heart since we first considered Honduras as an area of ministry back in August this last summer.

At this point, we have been pursuing these obvious connections and have seen the Lord working in amazing ways. We will continue meeting CAM missionaries and representatives over the course of the next few weeks to start the initial process of application and discovery of ministry areas.

It is very exciting to both of us as we feel very confident in the organization of CAM, in the specific area of ministry that "happen" to be exactly what was put on my heart for some time, and in the timing of all of this. We will know more about the specifics of the ministry once we discuss more with CAM, but are moving ahead with anticipation. We don't want to get "too excited" about this and just let the Lord do His thing, so are just taking it one step at a time. If doors continue to open then praise the Lord! If they close, then praise the Lord! Either way, we just want to be in His will and listening closely. Please continue to pray for us and thank you for being a part of our journey!
